For the queer community, many of us grow up scared or unable to be or express ourselves in our families or communities. Though we know there is something special or different about us, we are unable to speak about it for years or even decades. I wrote this song because to the queer community, Halloween–a holiday built upon themes of fear, ghosts, and death–has become a holiday of self-expression, where we leave the fear and ghosts of our past behind and live fully. The characters in this song are dealing with the consequences of falling in love, doing the best they can to live in the moment and be true, without fearing an uncertain future.
